South Africa's fresh produce sector got its first new market in fifty years. Shuri Agri was there on opening day.

We are a licensed market agent at Mpumalanga International FoodMarket, representing farmers on the trading floor and delivering quality produce to the Lowveld's hospitality sector, operating under Colette H Holdings since MIF opened in June 2026.

Why we were founded

Fresh produce markets in South Africa have been consolidating and ageing for decades. Farmers in outlying provinces, particularly in Mpumalanga, have had limited options for getting their produce in front of premium buyers without travelling to Johannesburg or accepting farm-gate prices from brokers whose interests are misaligned with theirs.

On 8 June 2026, that changed. Mpumalanga International FoodMarket opened in Mbombela, a R2 billion facility and the first genuinely new fresh produce market to open in South Africa in more than fifty years. For Mpumalanga's farmers, it represented the first real opportunity to access a world-class trading floor within their own province.

Shuri Agri was founded to make sure that opportunity was accessible to more than just the largest commercial farms. By operating as a registered agent, aggregating producers and working on a transparent commission model, we give smallholder and mid-size growers the same market access that has historically been reserved for operations ten times their size.

At the same time, the Lowveld's hospitality sector (its lodges, game reserves, restaurants and event venues) needed a specialist supplier who understood the region, knew what was in season, and would deliver reliably before service. Shuri Fresh was built for exactly that.
